General description of LCD technology
Quality technology made in Germany
NIS displays are known for their high quality and reliability, which are based on our many years of experience and constructive
partnership with our customers / users, and the use of high-quality materials for industrial applications.
In a nutshell:
- Quality products you can rely on
- Customized product development and production
- Project planning to implementation with one partner
- Product and software training
- Produkt- und Software-Schulung
- Service and repairs
LCD Functional Principle
The LCD (liquid crystal display) can be regarded as an electrically controlled light valve. There are two defined states:
excited with voltage = transparent segments and idle without voltage = closed segments in negative displays.
We use special LCD technologies for professional applications.
-
COG (Chip-On-Glass) technology:
The control chip and interconnection track are integrated in the glass, thus ensuring an identical coefficient of expansion at all temperatures.
The approx. 0.01 mm thick liquid crystal layer is hermetically sealed between 2 sheets of glass.
-
Transflective LCD technology:
A semi-transparent reflector is installed behind the LCD glass and in front of the acrylic glass in a triple-layered structure
which is illuminated from the rear in darkness and which reflects in sunlight. Transflective LCD technology does not require
external brightness control and allows a uniform colorfastness and brightness. The original brightness of the LCD display
can be restored by exchanging the background lighting (e.g. customary fluorescent tubes).
Characteristics of Display Elements
- Excellent readability: via reflection in direct sunlight and backlighting in darkness
- Angle of View: > 140°
- Operating temperature range: -25°C to +85°C
- Extremely long useful service life: ca. 200 000 h (> 22 years)
- Extremely low energy consumption
- Large filling factor / small pixel spacing
- Low operating and maintenance costs thanks to standard component parts
- Individual monochrome color design via transflector foil, e.g. yellow, white, green, red, blue, etc.
- Environmental stability vs. UV rays and vibration
